Since childhood, I wanted to make music. I tried singing and playing guitar, but at the time I lacked the time and consistency to follow through.

My love of hard rock and heavy metal grew through Betonuur, Alfred Lagarde’s radio show on VARA / Hilversum 3 in the Netherlands. That music has been the thread running through my life ever since.

AC/DC remains my biggest influence, especially Highway to Hell and Bon Scott. Alongside them came Judas Priest, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Status Quo, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Dio, Saxon, Boston, Meat Loaf and Queen.

Later, I went deep into Southern rock: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, .38 Special and Blackfoot. Those rough, distinctive voices have always had a special hold on me.

Then my son told me about SUNO. His message was simple: Dad, this is where you can finally do what you have always wanted to do. I threw myself into learning it.

My first songs were personal, written for people around me. Soon I began writing about politics in Germany, Europe and the wider world.

I see a world in which a small group of elites controls people’s lives, and I do not believe that control serves humanity. In my view, state and established media support and sustain that system. That is why I began writing protest songs.

At first, I called myself Patriot Rebel. When my first single, What Will Your Children Say?, came out, I discovered that a band was already using that name. That is how The Lone Rebel was born.

But life is not only protest. There is joy, love, passion, memories and the beautiful moments you want to hold on to. I do not limit myself to one musical style.

I write my lyrics myself. AI occasionally helps when I am missing a rhyme; SUNO is used exclusively to turn those words into music.

I love the old, dirty AC/DC songs and the music of Danko Jones. I do not chase the mainstream. I use words people use in everyday life, and I do not leave out explicit lyrics when they belong to the story and its characters. Mandy Hill occasionally brings a female voice and a different musical flavour.

The stories told in my songs are not necessarily accounts of my own life, and they do not necessarily represent my personal attitudes or who I am. I create characters whose thoughts, emotions and situations I can understand and write from their point of view. Even when a song is written in the first person, the voice belongs to the character and should not automatically be understood as my own. Any scenes of violence described in my songs are fictional. They do not depict acts that I have committed.
